Law And Order Gets No New Order For Episodes

The original Law and Order has been canceled after two decades. After 20 years of filming and taking place in New York City, the show that began it all is getting canceled. After this season wraps, that will be it as outlined by producer Dick Wolf. This fall, a new spin off will debut and the other spin off shows can be sticking around as well. So despite the original show ending, syndication and a brand new spin-off mean the makers of the show won't hurt for instant cash.

Law and Order takes cue from the Dodgers

It was announced that though Law and Order the original is facing the firing squad, hope springs eternal. A new Law and Order series, taking place in Los Angeles, will debut this fall according to the New York Times. Just as the Dodgers did, the New York offices are closed and they’re headed for California. Despite its near institutional status, and producer Dick Wolf's known desire to beat Gunsmoke as the longest-running prime time drama, the show is still going to the metaphorical gallows.

Spin offs in abundance

Law and Order is the king of all series producing spin offs. There is Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Law and Order: UK and now Law and Order: Los Angeles. There were others that did not fare also. There are rumors that a movie may be in the works and that the show is being sued by Chuck Norris, as Law and Order are the trademarked names of his left and right boots.

Other shows that got the axe

There were other cancellations for this year. Both smash success shows Lost and 24 were cut. The Ghost Whisperer will now become a ghost itself, The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Numb3rs aren't being renewed, among others.
