Dr. Laura Schlessinger, radio industry veteran, should know also as any others that it is easy to get in trouble when calling a black called the “N-word” 11 times on the air. Dr. Laura gets to be a part of history now. And the heat in that kitchen is evidently too much, because “Dr. Laura quits” headlines are everywhere.
The radio show no longer has Dr. Laura to work with
Dr. Laura will quit the radio show after the contract expires, says PopEater. Because she “wants to regain her First Amendment rights,” is why this radio diva told CNN’s “Larry King Live” that she’s quitting. Schlessinger did once believe that Howard Stern needed those rights taken away from him.
Dr. Laura thinks this is really an empowering move on her part.
“I want to be able to say what’s on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry – some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and sponsors,” she told King.
Apology not accepted by Schlessinger
The doctor maintains the argument, even after apologizing for using the N-word, that she “wasn’t dissing anybody”. The production company for Dr. Laura has claimed they are just letter her “pursue opportunities” rather than work with them. General Motors and Motel 6, two national sponsors who have pulled the plug on Schlessinger aren’t dissing her, either.
The next part of the Dr. Laura quits
Dr. Laura has quit before, says TMZ. She almost had her own CBS TV talk show in 1999. However, Dr. Laura added the condition that she would only work for CBS if it would “muzzle” Howard Stern and not allow him to speak ill of her on his own show. CBS balked at her condition, understandably. Dr. Laura did do a TV show for a little while for Paramount after. She got in trouble with gay rights groups after talking bad about homosexuals on the show. They called for her dismissal via the StopDrLaura.com campaign, and more than 170 advertisers left the show. Dr. Laura even lost Dodge.
