Space Shuttle Landing Today: Shuttle Landing Path Flies Over USA

space3-300x375The space shuttle landing today successfully completed at 9:08 a.m. Eastern Time. NASA officially announced the space shuttle landing after Discovery and also the Discovery crew flew over the entire United States. Residents of a Georgia payday loan store and North Dakota coffee shops got an excellent view of the landing shuttle. After two scrubbed landings yesterday, this space shuttle landing was not assured to be a go – in fact, for a when, it was under question.

Space shuttle landing today almost did not happen

The Florida space center NASA crew was trying for the 3rd time today to land the space shuttle. Yesterday, bad weather and very thick clouds led to two different space shuttle landing tries being canceled. The space shuttle landing today had to be delayed by an Earth orbit due to nearby rain showers. Following the Discovery space shuttle made 238 complete orbits of the planet, the shuttle touched down in Southern Florida.

Shuttle landing path

The space shuttle landing path planned for Discovery was a very unusual path for NASA flights. Ever since the Columbia disaster in 2003, which scattered debris across California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas, NASA has scheduled the shuttle landing path so that it doesn’t go overland. The landing path of the Discovery shuttle allowed the crew a cash advanceworth of additional time in space and additional sleep before the space shuttle landing today, which took extreme focus. The Discovery space shuttle landing today gave an opportunity for many United States citizens to see and hear the space shuttle landing, thanks to the unusual shuttle landing path.

Next NASA Space shuttle mission

The next space shuttle mission NASA has prepared is supposed to lift off on Might 14. The current NASA space program has only 3 remaining spaceflights, which kick off with the Atlantis launch in May. Discovery will make the last space flight of its life on Sept 16. Once this space shuttle fleet is retired at the end of the year, NASA will be focusing on projects such as landing on Mars.
