Yahoo email login quits functioning as employees are let go

Yahoo was down today for short bursts of time as the servers appeared to be overloaded. This is taking place at the same time that Yahoo declared layoffs of more than seven-hundred employees. The internal layoffs and Yahoo login issues aren’t directly connected, though some are theorizing it might mark the downfall of the company. This employee layoff is likely to put even more people in the payday loan line.

Yahoo login and Yahoo offerings down

Yahoo login was just not functioning according to many reports on the web. Yahoo News, Yahoo Buzz and Yahoo email all would not work. It seemed like Yahoo offerings were down. Many outside mail services reported problems also. Evidently Yahoo Email servers were not working. As of 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time Tuesday, all Yahoo offerings appeared to be intermittently functioning.

Reported to be Yahoo layoffs

Monday night, the Brand new York Times documented that rumors were circulating about Yahoo layoffs. Many news sources confirmed the rumors on Tuesday. About 5 percent of the workforce could be laid off, which is from 600 to seven-hundred people. Most of the layoffs can be in Yahoo’s merchandise group, which controls Yahoo Mail and other major Yahoo goods. Department heads in Yahoo were warned a few days ago to prepare for layoffs of up to 20 percent of their workforce. This came from the head of Yahoo's products division.

AOL acquisition off the table for Yahoo

Carol Bartz became CEO in Yahoo. This happened in 2009. She states that the company has been trying to develop ways for "users to interact in social fashions" which has been worked on a lot. AOL was thinking about making an acquisition offer for Yahoo just a little bit ago. That offer is now off the table, and it was never officially made. A combined AOL/Yahoo business would have been terrible for the workforce, as more individuals would have been let go than are now. That means it was probably good for the Yahoo layoffs to take place along with the AOL offer being taken off the table.
