The latest batch of crash tests by the government has just been released. The brand new standards are officially implemented. The new scoring system is a 5 star rating. Only two cars managed to net a five star rating within the tests. Only the BMW 5 series and also the Hyundai Sonata got five star ratings. This round of tests was for 34 different models, and it integrated a new sliding side impact.
Brand new standards made for crash assessments
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration came out and changed some things. The crash test rating system was one of these things. Instead of the usual one to four star scale, it is now one to five. Today was the end of the first round of screening. This is what USA Today reports. The first round of tests was conducted on 34 automobiles. There could be a second round of testing soon. 22 more automobiles could be in this. There is going to be much more criteria with the new rating system. There is an additional assessment added too. There could be assessments over side collision. This is because skidding happens with side collision occasionally. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration decided collision avoidance systems needed to be tested too. One of these tested was the electronic stability control. Earlier standards should be compared to brand new standards. This is suggested by the NHTSA.
BMW and Hyundai Motors are the safest
There were only two five-star crash tested automobiles. The Bavarian Motor Works 5 series and the Hyundai Motors Sonata were the only cars to warrant a perfect five-star collision assessment. Only three automobiles got less than a 4 also. The collision test proved the Toyota Motors Camry and Camry Hybrid not to be very safe. They did their crash assessment just to get a three star rating. The best scores originated from the Camry last year. The Nissan Versa got a bad score. It was the lowest actually. All of the other autos did alright. They received a four star rating given to them.
Nevertheless have some much more cars to be tested
This only the initial round of tests. There are more than 22 vehicles that still have to go through collision screening from the NHTSA. Safecar.gov is where the facts are. That is where you are able to discover the whole list of ratings.
