Rutgers sex tape of Tyler Clementi leads to suicide

ABC News reports that Tyler Clementi, an 18-year-old freshman at Rutgers University in New Jersey, has committed suicide after learning that what he thought was a private homosexual encounter in his dorm room was broadcast live online. Media reports indicate that fellow Rutgers students Ravi and Wei orchestrated the live online broadcast that ultimately led Clementi into despondency and suicide. Soon after his horrific online outing, Tyler Clementi signed off on Facebook and signed out of life by jumping off a bridge.

A warning of a upcoming death came from Tyler Clementi

September 22 was when everyone got their goodbye from Clementi on his Facebook. He updated his status to say, "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry," at 8:42 p.m. The body of Clementi hasn't been discovered yet, but there was a body found just north of the bridge on the Hudson River. New Jersey authorities were the ones to find the body. A wallet containing Clementi’s Rutgers University student ID and driver’s license was found nearby.

Tyler Clementi's death was confirmed by Paul Mainardi who’s the Clementi family attorney. This statement said that Tyler Clementi was a wonderful person that was really good with music as well.

Expressing, ‘I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.’

Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan discussed that because Tyler Clementi's gay encounter was showed through iChat, both Rutgers Scarlet Knights Ravi and Wei are being imposed with two counts of invasion of privacy. On September 19, Ravi tweeted a comment saying:

“Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.”

Ravi was on Twitter again a couple days later. He tweeted something new:

“Anyone with iChat, I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes it’s happening again.”

Ravi and Wei turned themselves in to police

Wei and Ravi have both left New Jersey police custody after surrendering themselves to the police. Based on ABC News, Wei was released on her own recognizance, when Dharun Ravi managed to post $25,000 bail. The investigation will continue leaving a lot more info to be found.
