National Security Advisor James Jones resigns

The National Security Adviser, James Jones, has resigned his post. Tom Donilon, Jones’ deputy, could be his successor. The White House has high turnover. Officials in top slots are leaving in droves. Rahm Emanuel had been a high profile person to quit. He left to run for Mayor of Chicago. There are rumors that Hillary Clinton is going to replace Joe Biden as Vice President.

James Jones enjoying the idea of retirement

It had been most recently announced that James Jones can be retiring. He will serve out the remainder of October, as outlined by the Los Angeles Times. Jones could be swapped out by Tom Donilon, the Deputy National Security Advisor. Experience is something Donilon has. He served as chief of staff for Warren Christopher, the Secretary of State for President Clinton. He then worked for Obama as the third president to work under. General James Jones intended to only serve for two years, as he has already had a long career. Jones had been in the Marine Corps at one point. He had been a Commandant and commander of the NATO actually. Jones didn’t even want the position of National Security Advisor. He was also a chief architect of the Afghan surge strategy at the moment being implemented.

Positions being vacated by officials

CNN reports that officials keep leaving the Obama administration. Rahm Emanuel just lately stepped down to pursue a bid for Mayor of Chicago to replace the outgoing Mayor Daley. Others to leave contain advisor David Axelrod and economic adviser Larry Summers. A rumor of another is going around. Joe Biden may step down. Rampant speculation has started that President Obama will replace him with Hillary Clinton before the 2012 election, though the White House denies it so far.

Musical chairs in the White House

It appears like all the White House staff are disappearing. They all keep leaving. It’s not quite set in stone if this is coincidence or not. There are other presidents that had large comings and goings of staff before.
