The retirement of the present mayor, Richard Daley, at the conclusion of his term raised the possibility. Rahm has been known to covet the job. Therefore, once the opportunity came up, individuals were talking about it.
Rahm gathered and vanished
Speculation of Rahm Emanuel leaving his post for the upcoming Chicago mayor election has been rampant for weeks. Nobody has heard if he is running for sure yet. It still isn't official. There were reports from D.C. saying otherwise. This would indicate he is running officially. The Washington Post has given its opinion on things. It expects the White House will announce what is going on pretty soon. A press conference will be held where Obama addresses the issue. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs confirmed that there are personnel changes that could be discussed in a press conference in the White House soon.
This can be a Daley thing to do
Chicago Mayor Richard Daley decided earlier this year not to seek reelection next year. He plans on retiring following the term he is in. According to the New York Times, Daley decided the time was right to leave it all behind. Everyone thinks his retirement can be the end of a dynasty. It will be the end of the Chicago dynasty that is expected. He has a father with his exact same name of Daley who was a Democratic mayor of Chicago for quite some time. The elder Daley served in the post from 1955 to 1976, and died while in office. The younger Mayor Daley was elected in 1989, and has been the mayor ever since. The mayor of Chicago has been within the Daley family for a long time. In fact, it has been for 44 of the last 55 years.
Rahm recognized to want the job
Rahm Emanuel is known to have wanted the job for some time. Emanuel may be just the one for the job considering that Democrats have ruled the city forever.
